Hello Internet;

This weekend we were able to travel down to Moncton with the Vardi Puppet House for its first full-scale show, outdoors, with the puppet theater. The School of Atlantic Ballet hosted it’s first to annual Kreativ Children's Festival at the Aviner Center. The festival featured the students of the school, local singers and children’s authors.

I would also like to thank Naomi and Dustyn of Solo Chicken Productions for their time and their creation of “Meatball the Cat” which was performed at the Festival as well.

Hello Internet;

Today marked the launch of the 2019 NotaBle Acts Theatre Festival. It kicked off with the main stage production of Fruit Machine, co-created by Alex Rioux and Sam Crowell under Solo Chicken Productions. I have seen it in all stages and was able to costume this final installation of the work. I will be able to see it in all its glory this Thursday night. I suggest everyone gets out to see this work. It is a phenomenal piece of physical theater and so important for queer and Canadian history.

The festivals launch party also featured a reading of S.C.O.P.E by Jean-Michelle Cliche alongside a few beers at the Grad House. S.C.O.P.E is an A.I looking human connection through short monologues. A beautiful and simple glimpse into humanity.

Hello Internet;

The last two days, I have been lucky enough to be involved with Solo Chicken Productions latest community outreach program, The Spirit Project. It has been an eye-opening and wonderful few afternoons.

The Spirit Project is a joint venture between Solo Chicken and L’Arche Fredericton to bring art to people of all abilities. This project spans visual art, improv, film making, and music and finds sensory friendly ways to explore creation. Want to learn more? Visit http://www.solochickenproductions.com/the-spirit-project

Hello Internet;

Today was spent building the puppet theater. A huge thank you to Alex Pannier and Bard in the Barracks for providing jacks and braces for the project. I spent time pleating and stapling velvet while Solo Chicken rehearsed the shows.

Hello Internet;

We’re halfway through our residency and we have a show! We are able to run start to finish with all of the cut pieces. Dustyn has also spliced together some royalty free tunes to work with.

We’re spending tomorrow afternoon drilling and tweaking the work, finding all of the cute moments for Meatball the Cat.

Hello Internet;

After an afternoon of cutting card stock and gluing gel sheets, Solo Chicken and I have created 10 minutes worth of content. Meatball the Cat will be performed at 2:30 pm this Sunday at the library in Downtown Fredericton.

Now comes the fine tuning. Dustyn and Noemi have to work out how to move and transition all of the pieces quickly and comfortably in a very small space. We will spend time playing with light sources for effects. We will also work to find or create a suitable soundtrack for the show.

Hello Internet;

Solo Chicken Productions and I began the morning with an interview with CHSR radio. This will air sometime during the week. We discussed the artistic process and the project. A big thank you to Matt who came down to the Barracks to talk to us.

In the afternoon, we jumped right back into creating the shadow puppet show. We have named it Meatball the Cat. After cutting and playing, one afternoon created about 1:30 minutes of content for viewership. Puppets are and will always be slow to create and beautiful to watch.

Hello Internet;

Exciting news! Next week we are in residency with Solo Chicken Productions! Here is the official press release:

SOLO CHICKEN PRODUCTION’S and GREY RABBIT THEATRE COMPANY

Announces: Summer 2019 Fredericton Arts Alliance- Artists in Residency

the coop is excited to announce that it will be partnering with Grey Rabbit Theatre and the Fredericton Public Library during their one-week tenure as Artists in Residence at the Soldiers Barracks Casemates as part of the Fredericton Arts Alliances annual Summer Series. From July 1-7 2019 the coop and Grey Rabbit will be in residence at the casemates and will work collaboratively to create a children’s shadow puppet show centered on the FAA’s theme of trees. As part of this creative partnership the Fredericton Public Library’s Children’s Department will be hosting a poetry workshop led by Fredericton Poet Laureate, Jenna Lyn Albert on Thursday June 27 2019 where children will be encouraged to write poems about their relationship with their favourite trees. the coop and Grey Rabbit will use these poems as the creative catalyst for a short new shadow puppetry show. Grey Rabbit is a new theatre company in Fredericton that focuses on puppetry and the coop is excited to partner up to see where this relationship can go! Both companies look forward to working in the public eye and sharing their craft and process with tourists and locals alike. The public is encouraged to come down to the barracks to visit the casements to watch the artist’s work, and join in the discussion about what tree’s mean to them! There will be a presentation of the completed work at the Fredericton Public Library on Sunday, July 7 2019 at 2:30PM.

This project was made possible through the generous support of the City of Fredericton, The Fredericton Arts alliance, The Fredericton Public Library and the Government of New Brunswick.
