Hello Internet;

This weekend we were able to travel down to Moncton with the Vardi Puppet House for its first full-scale show, outdoors, with the puppet theater. The School of Atlantic Ballet hosted it’s first to annual Kreativ Children's Festival at the Aviner Center. The festival featured the students of the school, local singers and children’s authors.

I would also like to thank Naomi and Dustyn of Solo Chicken Productions for their time and their creation of “Meatball the Cat” which was performed at the Festival as well.

Hello Internet;

NotaBle Acts is coming to an end. It’s been a busy week. A huge thank you to Brandon Hicks for writing a ten minute short that I was able to direct - with puppets! I felt the forever puppeteer words come out of my mouth. Focus, open your armpits and personal space is a myth. I am very proud of Kayla, Garret, and Diana for sticking through the 30+ degree week holding a 3/4 garbage puppet.

I was also able to take part in the one-acts. Gullywhump by Greg Everett was staged in Memorial Hall for the end of the festival. I was asked to take part in the production because of my puppetry interests. I wore the hottest monster suit of my life and had a blast Gullywhumping (now a verb) around.

Finally, I was able to take part in the reading of brand new work, Queen James (and all of his men) written by the dramaturge in residence Rob Kempson.

I cant wait to see what New Brunswick has to offer next year.

Hello Internet;

Today I am writing to you from one of my favorite Fredericton hidey-holes, the biology building greenhouse. It’s about to pour down with rain. I'm in a glass building full of orange trees and tropical flowers. It smells amazing in here. I love this place. It’s always empty in the summer. I can sit at a chess table and work.

I'm waiting for the read-through of a NotaBle Acts one-act show, The Gullywhump by Greg Everett. This is one of the few shows I didn’t get a chance to read. I'm excited to meet the cast for the first time and hear this horror.

I'm also directing a lunchtime short, The Hoard by Brandon Hicks. A short comedy with a garbage puppet. There's nothing I don't like about it. I hope you all come out to see it.

Hello Internet;

Today was spent building the puppet theater. A huge thank you to Alex Pannier and Bard in the Barracks for providing jacks and braces for the project. I spent time pleating and stapling velvet while Solo Chicken rehearsed the shows.

Meatball the Cat and Maria Maria are being shown tomorrow at 2:30 pm at the Fredericton Public Library. This is the first version and an entertaining 20 minutes. It has been an interesting and experimental week in the Barracks, and I'm glad for the opportunity to work with Solo Chicken.

Hello Internet;

We’re halfway through our residency and we have a show! We are able to run start to finish with all of the cut pieces. Dustyn has also spliced together some royalty free tunes to work with.

We’re spending tomorrow afternoon drilling and tweaking the work, finding all of the cute moments for Meatball the Cat.

Hello Internet;

Solo Chicken Productions and I began the morning with an interview with CHSR radio. This will air sometime during the week. We discussed the artistic process and the project. A big thank you to Matt who came down to the Barracks to talk to us.

In the afternoon, we jumped right back into creating the shadow puppet show. We have named it Meatball the Cat. After cutting and playing, one afternoon created about 1:30 minutes of content for viewership. Puppets are and will always be slow to create and beautiful to watch.

On Sunday, Solo Chicken is performing the work at the library at 2:30 pm for all the children. We don't even know what it's going to be yet, so it will be exciting for us all.

Hello Internet;

Today I‘ve continued working on hand puppets again. All the heads need bodies. I brought some broadcloth for the bases and have been sat stitching the gloves. It took a few times to get the size right.

Aside from that, I sent a few hours printing and filing the scripts from this year. I like to keep my work in black binders in our den. It’s a preference of mine to have the work in hard copy.
