Hello Internet;

After a crazy hurricane weekend that destroyed the Halifax waterfront, Halifax is gearing up for FIN Atlantic International Film Festival. I have two works in the festival that I appear in for a brief moment; Entropic by Frictive Pictures and Popsey by Popular Demand Pictures.

Entropic was one of the first feature-length films I ever appeared in. It has a stellar cast and is an interesting take on modern beauty and possession. Be warned, the content is graphic and the subject matter is dark.

Popsey is a short film based on Steven King's collection of short stories, specifically, Popsey. Popular Demand Pictures keeps all of the tropes and beauty of this horrific tale. I can not wait to see it.

I, unfortunately, won't be able to attend the world premiers for either film next Friday the 13th. I have plans back in Fredericton taking my dad to harvest jazz and blues. If you are in the Halifax area, be sure to catch this film festival. It's a great time.

Hello Internet;

The last couple of days have been spent on the QOTA set, building one of the more involved sets… a space ship.

I should reaffirm that point that I am Tracy Lavigne's assistant on this shoot, and this her plan. I show up and do what I'm told, like spray painting metal and drilling guide holes every 16 inches.

The spaceship is actually a very tight frame, so we can get away with focusing detail in a small area. Instead of creating a full room with panels and buttons and all the other jargon associated with a space station we can just build a seat, walls, and windows.

So remember folks, when you see this beautiful shot, its a 4X8 box in Tracy’s living room, leveled with a lot of shims because its an old house.

Hello Internet;

It’s another day on the QOTA set. Today we filmed the storage locker scene and the town hall scene.

It was a very sunny day. The team needed to set up a shade sail for the doorway. Thankfully the camera frame was tight and little else was needed for light control.

This was a heavy day in terms of extra’s as well. A lot of Fredericton locals showed up for the town hall scene. This all went very smoothly and we were done ahead of schedule, a testament to Jill's production team.

Hello Internet;

I’m back on the Queen Of The Andes set today painting more rooms. This will eventually become a home office for one of the scenes. Aside from that, we are about one week away from shooting, and two weeks away from all the major art department requirements.

Down side is, my partner gave me his cold. Great timing.

Hello Internet;

This weekend I headed down to Saint John to finish the second weekend of shooting for Cori Brownlee’s short, Distortion.

The Fredericton skeleton crew packed up into the most impractical Jeep Wrangler we could have possibly rented and headed down to Saint John for a for the day. We had to come up for a solution for a 360 degree shot on a dining table. This is our solution, a rotating microwave plate. We made it level with a pizza stone. I think we all agree that we are guests.

We then headed uptown for some shots at the InterACTION Theatre. The theatre is a Blackbox like room, converted from an old church. The building has some beautiful stained glass and yellow tinted windows. I got to know some of the staff at the theater and the programs they provide to the community. They’re pretty cool. If you're in the region, look them up.

Hello Internet;

Today was the second day on the feature film set that’s rolling through town. I haven’t asked about the media regulations surrounding the shoot so I won't give to much away.

I’m working in the Art Department. So, I've spent much of my time painting rooms for shoots, sourcing materials for scenes and moving furniture from location to location.

Hello Internet;

Today I am writing from the beautiful city of Charlottetown PEI, hiding on the top for of #receivercoffee with my laptop. My partner had a series of business meetings this morning so I tagged along for some great coffee and a chance to visit local galleries in the area.

Fredericton’s weekend was as jam-packed as ever.

On Saturday morning I woke up bright and early to be on Gia Milani’s short film set filming here in Fredericton. I put on my funeral clothes and joined them at St. Anne’s Church on George Street for a little bit of background work.

On Saturday evening The Muse Cafe hosted the Playwrights' Cabaret, featuring writers from across the region and presenting sections of their latest plays. I, unfortunately, snuck in halfway through because of a board meeting. I managed to catch some works that were being presented at Fundy Fringe Fest, Ryan Griffith’s hit new work Fortune of Wolves and Cole, a new work from Sackville New Brunswick.

It’s always great to see whats being created around the region, and to catch up with the creatives scattered across the province.

Now, I’m off to enjoy Downtown Charlottetown and catch some great art!
