There is a real benefit to having a playwright sit in on table reads. Not only does the playwright have a chance to hear the work out loud, but they are also able to make choices about their work on the fly. If something needs to be cut, edited or added, they can do it with the flick of their wrist instead of a chain of emails.
TNB is lucky enough to have Mona, the playwright for Sania the destroyer in the Open Space today. She and Natasha have gone through the script line by line to create the most efficient and entertaining piece of work for the tour.
The actors have also had the chance to ask her questions about line intentions and character motivations. All in all, it's just great to have a playwright in the room at this stage of the rehearsal.
